The 123rd Spindletop Anniversary event at Spindletop Gladys City Boomtown Museum is taking place on Jan. 13 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Attendees can enjoy historical skits, demonstrations from the Beaumont Amateur Radio Club, musical guests, gusher re-enactments, and food trucks.

Holocaust Portraits of Survival

In commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, The LU Office of Strategic Initiatives is hosting Portraits of Survival which features modern day portraits of Holocaust survivors. Next to each photo is a card telling the survivor’s story and how they came to rebuild their life.

Out of the Darkness campus walks are part of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's student fundraising series, designed to engage youth and adults in the fight to prevent suicide. Walk to honor a loved one, or to bring awareness to the cause. Family and friends are welcome.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program Seeking Volunteers
Deadline: Saturday, Jan. 20
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is looking for student volunteers for the 2024 tax preparation sites on campus and the Neighborhood Resource Center on Gulf Street in Beaumont. The VITA program is a free program that provides tax filing to individuals who had a total household income of $64,000 or less during 2023. VITA is also seeking IRS-certified tax preparers. Certification clases will be held on the LU campus on Saturday, Jan. 20. Please contact the LU Office of Strategic Initiatives at (409) 880-7169 for more information.

Graduate Research Conference Deadline Extended
Deadline: Thursday, Feb. 15, 12:00 p.m.
The deadline is extended to Feb. 15 for submissions to the Graduate Research Conference to be held on March 28 in the Setzer Center. The conference will focus on AI, but there are open topics and sessions from all fields of inquiry.
